Following the end of the peak of the epidemic, and due to the drastic decline in new cases in the camp, activities at the Ebola First Aid Post in Waterloo ended. The building is now used as a school again, as it was before the Ebola epidemic started.

Apart from treating the patients, prevention plays a key role in the fight against Ebola. That's why on the beginning of December, 2014, we opened a First Aid Post (FAP) in Waterloo, a refugee camp where 22,000 people are crammed into overcrowded, decaying huts. Like in many other parts of the capital, there were no healthcare facilities in the camp able to provide a quick response in the event of a suspected infection.

At the EMERGENCY FAP, four nurses carried  out triage on the suspected cases, transferring them to the Goderich Ebola Treatment Unit if necessary.
The community's help has been essential for halting the spread of the infection: this is reason why we trained 90 health workers able to identify people in the camp who've come into contact with Ebola patients, and to monitor them daily.

Identifying, isolating and treating Ebola patients is the best way to prevent the virus from spreading throughout the community.
