Due to the complete lack of health care facilities and disastrous road conditions, Emergency has created a network of First Aid Posts (FAPs) and Health Care Centres in order to quickly treat patients and transfer them to hospital, when necessary.
The first FAPs were built in the North, in small, isolated villages and on mountain passes up to 4,000 metres high, in heavily mined areas.
This network was subsequently expanded at the request of local communities: there are now 17 facilities in the North, which refer to the Anabah hospital, 10 facilities around Kabul and 1 near Lashkar-gah.
The FAPs and Health Care Centres, all with ambulances for the transfer of patients, provide round-clock assistance with fully trained local staff. They are the only free health care available for hundreds of thousands of people.
