The Manifesto for a Human rights based medicine was elaborated in May 2008 in Venice, at a meeting promoted by EMERGENCY about the health sector in Africa, at which the Ministers of health of eight African countries participated.

With this Manifesto, EMERGENCY, along with the countries that have so far undersigned, declares that the "right to be cured" is a fundamental and inalienable right belonging to every member of the human family. Further, it calls for healthcare based on Equality, Quality and Social responsibility.


Thus far, the Manifesto has been undersigned by: Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda.
