The organisation

EMERGENCY was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1994.

It was recognised as an NGO in 1999 and as an official partner of the UN Department of Public Information in 2006.

Since 2015, we have been part of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as an Associate with Special Consultative Status.

Since January 2018, we have been an official partner of EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).

In November 2020, the EU Humanitarian Partnership Certificate was awarded to EMERGENCY as a result of the positive assessment of the partnership application to the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO).
With this certificate, EMERGENCY is considered suitable to apply for EU funding for the implementation of humanitarian aid activities.

ETHICS, TRANSPARENCY

The Supervisory Board oversees the operation and the observance of the Organisational, Management and Control Model and of the Code of Ethics, as well as their updating. ETHICAL CODE

By adopting this Code of Conduct, EMERGENCY aims to further promote the values on which its operational activity is based, and is committed to fully respecting these provisions.

ORGANISATIONAL MODEL

In order to ensure fairness and transparency in the conduct of our activities, we have set up an Organisation, Management and Control Model.

EMERGENCY has developed several policies to define the main principles and provide recommendations and guidelines for all its staff and stakeholders:

Whistleblowing Policy and Complaint Mechanism

EMERGENCY ONG ONLUS has deployed a series of internal channels that are safe to report actions, omissions or conducts by its Personnel, partners, suppliers and consultants that violate the range of prescriptions indicated in the Whistleblowing Policy such as, in brief,:

I. national and EU laws;
II. International laws and contractual obligations;
III. Code of Ethics (and Code of Conduct), EMERGENCY Policies and procedures;
IV. ethical and operational standards.

✅ Reporting can be anonymous.
✅ Identity of Whistleblower and/or survivor, if disclosed, will be protected.

❌ False accusations and reporting of facts knowingly false are prohibited.
❌ Please also avoid to report here facts that are not under the control and command of EMERGENCY ONG ONLUS.
❌ This channel is not for reporting on emergencies. In case of emergency, please contact the concerned authority.

Pursuant to article 14, paragraph 2, of the Code of the Third Sector, remuneration to administrative bodies in the year 2022 was €471,639 (from employment or collaboration).
The emoluments, fees and considerations for any reason relating to members in 2022 amounted to €887,052. This figure includes remuneration for employees and collaborators.
Fees and remuneration to auditing bodies in the year 2022 was €48,319.
Remuneration was provided through contracts of employment or professional collaboration with one of the bodies and not on the basis of belonging to the organisation.
For members of the General Assembly, gross remuneration totalling €18,900 was paid.
Refunds for expenses were also paid in 2022: to the tune of €44,675 for employees, €7,193 for employees who are also assembly members, and €4,691 for members of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.
